VOTE Women and Girls Day

Friday, December 15, 2017 - 10:00am
Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the world and Greater New Orleans is the most incarcerated population in the state. 1.2 million women are currently incarcerated throughout the U.S., and from 1984-2014 the rate of incarceration among women increased by 700%, with Black women incarcerated at twice the rate of White women. Women often receive fewer health, education, and counseling resources than men while incarcerated and after release. Join VOTE NOLA for a march and rally on December 15, 2017 to raise awareness of mass incarceration's effects on women and girls. Beginning at 10am at The First 72+ (2915 Perdido St.) and ending with a rally at City Hall, this event will kick off a larger movement to end mass incarceration and increase resources available to currently or formerly incarcerated women and girls. See you there!
