'5 things to know' is a weekly feature highlighting different parts of the WWOZ world that you may have missed this week, including unique WWOZ programming and video, plus New Orleans events, artists, places, features, and more. For the week ending April 29, 2016-- so much is going on!

1) New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival's second weekend started yesterday! The second weekend is jam-packed with more fantastic local, national, and international acts including Irma Thomas, Stevie Wonder, Buddy Guy, Honey Island Swamp Band, Aurora Nealand & the Royal Roses, CJ Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band, King James & the Special Men, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Lena Prima, and so many more.

2) Hear the sounds of New Orleans live from Jazz Fest on WWOZ all weekend long. Our broadcast schedule this weekend includes sets from Jesse McBride Big Band, Aurora Nealand & the Royal Roses, John Boutte, Treme Brass Band, Gregory Porter, Jr., Terence Higgins, and many more! See the full broadcst lineup for Weekend 2 here.

3) Sync Up, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s entertainment industry conference during Jazz Fest, continues Friday and Saturday. With panel discussions and interviews in the mornings before Jazz Fest, Sync Up explores various aspects of a career in music: recording, touring, distribution, crowdfunding and more – all from the perspective of an independent artist. We're video streaming live from each day of the music portion of the conference, 10a-1p. You can watch it here on 4/29 and 4/30: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/wwoz-live-video-stream.

4) The party rolls on during festival season! There are plenty of great after-shows this weekend and in the days following Jazz Fest. On Saturday night, WWOZ presents Galactic + JJ Grey & Mofro at the Orpheum. See some more picks here. And definitely don't forget to check our Livewire Music Calendar online or app.

5) The giant tech industry conference, Collision, invaded New Orleans Tuesday-Thursday of this week. WWOZ's Chief Operating Officer Arthur Cohen spoke, along with Jazz & Heritage Foundation Programs Director Scott Aiges, on the origins of Jazz Fest, its role in the community, and its yearlong impact on New Orleans. Our Chief Development Officer Pamela Wood was also present, moderating a panel on the influence of music on societal issues.
