The Picnic Table Project is artist Deirdre Sargent's creation of a never ending picnic table for the city of New Orleans. The project is an attempt to break the world record for the longest picnic table. The piece is being developed with the Life is Art Foundation / KKProjects for the exhibition at Voodoo Experience.
Does anybody out there know when the music line-up will be released for this year's Satchmofest? My husband & I will be there and are curious (and excited) as to whom we will be fortunate enough to hear!! Thanks.
Come to the 4th annual 7th Ward Festival, hosted by the Porch 7th Ward Cultural Organization and the Original Big 7 Social Aid and Pleasure Club, May 8-10! Corner of Urquhart and Pauger Street. Friday the 8th will be an evening of Gospel from 3-10pm, featuring the Big 7 Brass Band, Collins Coach Lewis, the Divinity Singers, Marlyn Barberain, and more.
Forgive me if this is more Freewheeling than Festival but I do hope to hear some WWOZ programming along the route....
I was delighted to see the WWOZ icon on the webpage for this Sunday's New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon.
Does anyone know the skinny on obtaining admission to one of these events? Is this a muckety muck, got to know someone event. Or is there truly a way to get in?
They are obviously semi-private fundraisers for the Friends of New Orleans, timed to coincide with the DNC/RNC platforms.

My mouth has already started watering for a couple of po-boys for the PBPF which is Nov 23. I'm curious, what kind of po-boy must you have and who is your favorite purveyor of po-boys?
I'm looking forward to Satchmo Fest and all of the surround festivities. Frenchmen Street will be jumping on Friday night for the Club Strut. $25 gets you into most any venue all night long. Here's some of the folks that are playing:
Blue Nile Lionel Ferbos & the Louisiana Shakers - 7:00pm-8:30pm
Blue Nile - Irvin Mayfield & NOJO Showcase - 9:00pm-10:30pm
