Suzanne Corley became a show host at WWOZ in 2004, under the mentorship of Lewis White, host of Jazz from the Park on Tuesdays at the time. "Lewis was my mentor and remains a great friend and inspiration," she says.
Suzanne currently hosts Tudo Bem and World Journey: "For World Journey, I try to have a narrative arc, while for Tudo Bem I try to elide carefully-create a cohesive soundscape. World Journey stretches me more-to have the entire world's songbook as a possibility is daunting, amazing, and never-ending."
Her introduction to Brazil came during her undergraduate studies, when she had the opportunity to spend a summer working at an orphanage there. She went back for another summer two years later, picking up the language and beginning a lifelong love affair with Brazilian music.
About her time on air at WWOZ, Suzanne recalls, "Being on the air every Saturday as we rebuilt after Katrina was especially meaningful because I knew I was part of the soundtrack of people's journey back to wholeness-one nail, one roll of drywall tape, one bucket full of sludge flung out the door, one bleached-out mold spore at a time."
Catch Suzanne Corley hosting Tudo Bem on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. and then World Journey right afterwards from 4-6 p.m.
