Music Genre(s): Contemporary Jazz
Mark LaMaire, originally from Wisconsin, has been DJing on WWOZ since 2003. His passion for music extends well beyond jazz and as a semi-professional upright bassist he plays with a variety of acts ranging from the schizo-lounge act Jim O'Donnell to the live-instrument hip-hop menagerie White Colla Crimes. He is also a music critic for Offbeat magazine.
Apart from his presence in the New Orleans music community LaMaire also heads a non-profit organization called One World Family which aims to ease the suffering of marginalized people throughout the world. Started in 2009, One World Family has been responsible for bringing education and emergency assistance to numerous Burmese refugee villages in Northern Thailand.
