Radiation Anniversary

Why management wanted to celebrate the "radiation anniversary" was beyond me.  However, after doing hard time straightening out the Katrina debris in the WWOZ storage shed, I'm happy to do whatever they ask that doesn't involve mold, rodents, filth and high temperatures.

"Radio station" sure sounded like "radiation."  Besides, December 2nd, 1942 was the anniversary of Enrico Fermi's first nuclear reactor.  And today's public radio did come out of the education radio services.

Minutes before my show, the great Peggy Lou who hosts the Saturday 10pm to midnight shift at WWOZ, grabbed my wrists, sat me down and told me it was the radio station's anniversary.  WWOZ is 30 years old.  "Why would WWOZ care about a nuclear radiation event in the Chicago of 1942?"  It wasn't as embarrassing asking my potential Washington, DC employer if they had an emergency plan if Gort returned.

Well, it was too late to change the show, so on WWOZ's 30th anniversary, I'm celebrating the anniversary of atomic power's birth.
