Program: Sitting In with Elizabeth Meneray
In celebration of the spirit and the people of this wonderful, complex environment we call New Orleans, I am featuring the music composed by Duke Ellington for the 1970 Jazz Festival entitled, "New Orleans Suite." The music pays tribute to the sounds of the street, to the sounds of its music, to the heat and the rhythm, the heartbreak and the tears, the joy and the laughter. Ellington evokes us in this music - you can feel us there! I then turned attention to Duke's "Black, Brown and Beige." I'm excited to play Mahalia Jackson doing the 23rd Psalm with Duke - it's a beautiful piece of music, and a great way to end a pensive program. I hope you enjoy it.
