Krewe du Vieux and this weekend is the opening of Mardi Gras Season.  Today's local elections represent a transition from the Katrina era politicians.  And the Saints, the Saints don't need to win anything more - New Orleans is finally out of the bottom of a statistical category.

I'm worried.  How do I tell my visiting friends, Scott Britton and Elizabeth Swan, why marching in Krewe du Vieux is so rewarding.  Then the great WWOZ Traditional Jazz and New Orleans Music show hosts gives them the briefing.  "Make sure you make eye contact.  Throw gently because the beads only have value when they're in the air."  It's not about the beads, it is about the human relationship.  The giving between strangers.  You're giving them throws and visual humor and they are reaching out to you.
