Wild Jimmy Spruill

In honor of this weekend's spectacular Blues and BBQ festival in Lafayette Park, tonight's show will feature bluesman, Wild Jimmy Spruill.

Who? You've not only heard Wild Jimmy Spruill tart ultra-twangy guitar and you've loved his music. Unfortunately you probably heaped your praise on the the front men such as Wilbert Harrison, Noble Thin Man Watts, The Story Sisters or Bob Gaddy without even being aware of the session guitarist with that unique scratchy sound that actually caught your ear.

Tonight, take an audio tour through your listening past and connect that sound with the musician that brought you that joy - Wild Jimmy Spruill.

My thanks to for the material and inspiration to The Hound at:

From youtube caption: Only single from Cameo Parkway girls The Storey Sisters, who were later re-branded as 'Twinkle' although this didn't get them a lot further up the charts than this #85 entry. However, this curiosity is fantastic, with harmonized motorcycle engine tick-over sounds and an insight into the tribulations of being a teenage girl in 1958

And finally the video with the dancing band and 1960's girls with bee hive hair dos. John Waters is transported back to his youth. (In 1988 Coppin State professor Bob Catollioti and I drove up to the studio and adjacent radio tower in Baltimore where Waters found his inspiration for "Hairspray." The tower was for sale for a six multiple and the knucklehead I brought the deal to fumbled the deal - my only regret from the tower buying days.)
