Cats in the Belfrey

Cat songs with meow chorus predominate tonight.  No motivation outside of the above title.

Also songs about jail breaks.  Four guys break out of jail on the north shore but never get much further than a couple miles from the jail.  Where are you going to run in Louisiana?  Swamps are worse than jail...  Plenty of good songs about the topic and many done by New Orleans musicians.

Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks
Skippy's Farewell

The Hot Licks singing their names in harmony. Never thought about it but Naomi Eisenberg's name has a natural rhythm to it.
Johnny Burnett
Oh Baby Baby

Another lyric-challenged song. Burnett's lyric consist almost entirely of the word, "Baby."
Johnny Bell
The Third Degree

These lyrics actually happened to me when I was 17 years old. I had to meet my date's father before I could take her out. Of course the opportunity to experience the 1950s was more exciting than even the date so I gladly took part in this game. What a goof ball her father turned out to be. He was impressed that my weekend work was picking mushrooms. In hindsight, I feel sorry for his daughter. What chance would a kid have with a father who's satisfied (much less impressed) by the career of a 17-year-old mushroom picker?
Johnny Fortune
Dragster

Okay so I'm stuck in a time when musicians included recorded car sounds in their songs. Makes that father even more of a loser.
Johnny Roane
Dragstrip Baby

I figure his daughter is probably hanging around with some figure-eight demolition-derby pit man. At least she didn't get stuck with a mushroom picking, New Orleanian with a public radio habit.
Joe Johnson
Gila Monster

Joe Johnson must have been inspired by the 1959 movie Giant Gila Monster. The web link allows you to watch or download this movie.
Billy Tircuit
Crazy Green Lizard

New Orleanians have all seen those Green Anoles hunting around their homes. Why Billy Tircuit found inspiration from an anole is beyond me but perhaps the web link might answer the question for you.
