Program: New Orleans Music Show with Tom Morgan

Clip Show

Just before today's show, el-Jefe-de-WWOZ, Jorge, calls upon my patriotic WWOZ duty to hurry down and substitute for the great Tom Morgan.  I was so relieved that I wasn't being fired from my regular Saturday midnight to Sunday 3am shift that I said I'll be right down.  Okay so I encourage the dogs to quickly water and fertilize the French Quarter's sidewalk and I get to WWOZ with 20 minutes to spare.  Thankfully New Orleans' musical riches make a last-minute New Orleans Music Show possible.

Plenty of wonderful telephone calls including Monque D's over-the-top recitation of his Louisiana minute where President Thomas Jefferson gives Papa Funk his nick-name and Charmaine Neville says she both danced through the show and laid down her new floor.  This New Orleans music is magic.

Today's box score:

132 selections of which

  65 are songs

  67 sound clips

15 of my inane announcer breaks eating up 30 minutes of sacred aether modulation

For a selection every minute and presenting themes of:

1. Robot versus human conflicts

2.  Alien abductions (Gort is gonna clobber Lou Dobbs)

3.  Madhouses and nervousness

4.  Cosmetic surgery

5.  Daytime television show hosts' singing careers

6.  Sound-alike songs

7.  Driving, crashing, hospitalization and The End and the always popular:

8.  Milking cats and Mr. T

Almost every song from New Orleans musicians recorded back when you could walk down N. Claiborne Street under a ceiling of green leaves and see a record producer's office in every other block.  Like what you heard?  Tune in every Saturday night at midnight.
