Loser Pills

It was a mutual friend that the cab driver wanted a set of music for.  The cabbie knew he wasn't going to get a tip as soon as our mutual friend began bargaining down the fare.  He could have delivered the fare to the cops for "free" overnight room and board but the cabby preferred to notch the story and request a thematic set of music.

The cabby should more than make up for the financial loss with his award of the  traditional granting of three wishes by the WWOZ genies for anyone who calls in a musical theme.  Unless of course he doesn't clearly write and speak his wishes and keep one wish in reserve just in case he ends up as a punch line to a corny joke.

So tonight, nothing but loser songs.  No glorification or romanticizing, these are losers and parasites.  The folks that stiffed you on a tip, stole your umbrella on a rainy day, and vomited your dinner party offerings into your laundry hamper without telling you.

First set of music is for the Saturday night intoxicated crowd that thinks a hands-free cell phone makes it safe to drink, drive, and dial me to request Stairway to Heaven.  "Oh, isn't that what's playing now?  Oh man, I've got a cd on instead of the radio.  Okay can you play Sweet Home Alabama?"

Really.  That's happened.  I suspect he wasn't a listener-member.

So for all those folks who think they're better than huffing glue and gasoline because they're faking a bad back for pain pills, the first set is for you.  Music about abusing pills and high-alcohol, non-prescription medication.  Whoo hoo.

As we move up the food chain of intoxicants the next set of music is the hootch and bathtub-made wine crowd.  Not an ounce of scotch, vodka, gin or even beer songs here.  Plenty of wines made of wacky fruits and even alligators.  We'll put one guy in a bar but only because he orders a drink and refuse to pay.  Sound like the kind of guy who would stiff you on a tip.

Since the cab ride is out for lack of $$$ and common sense, our hypothetical loser is gonna fire up the car for the traditional Saturday night drunk drive time. Songs about gasoline (no huffing) and interstates ending with Roy Tann's song; "Your Driver's License Please."  After a quick pity party as an excuse to play Gene Pitney, we'll finish off the night with a bunch of name-calling songs - loser, fool, parasite.  Hopefully, I'll turn the proper knobs and get the brain - mouth coordination working well enough that you won't think I'm doing a show about myself.

Box Score:
