Program: Blues in the Night with Jamie Dell'Apa
By Nell Nolan
During the last week and culminating in tonight's radio show, North Korea's Dearest Leader presented a spectacular coming-of-age Debutant Party for his adopted daughter, "Lil' Kim." Lil Kim was presented to proper society as a svelte 5 megaton darling but the star of the show was the week-long aerial missile barrage and mobilization of the entire North and South Korean militaries. At the now end-of-the-week celebration, Dearest Leader capped the missiles, sent everyone home, and ordered the entire country to listen to the WWOZ musical salute to Lil Kim.
Thanks to Dwayne for not firing me for another week and to The Hound for the music and inspiration.
Oh yeah,
The box score on tonight's program:
127 selection over three hours or a change every 01:20. So on average you only have to wait 40 seconds to see if the show will continue to irritate.
02:30 Average announcer break - about twice the normal length. Am I rambling again?
Six topical sets of music in order of appearance:
1. Being a fugitive.
2. Driving out of Dallas with multiple chicks.
3. 90 minutes worth of atomic bomb songs with only three selections from the Atomic Cafe Soundtrack. Special bonus of three songs about Korea including Fats Domino's, I'm In Korea and the only roots rock band in all of North Korea joining The Astronauts for a mash up of Surfin' USA. First and last time that'll be played anywhere in the South.
4. Songs with laughing lyrics.
5. The Candy named musicians - Pepperment Harris, Candye Kane, and Penny Candy.
6. Monkey's dancing at the record hop.
Sound bites from:
Transformers, Three Stooges, Rocky and Bullwinkle, George Bush, Dragnet, The Fugitive, Bat Man, Khuskan, Slim Pickens, Ren and Stimpy, Shel Silverstein, Elmer Fudd, Speed Racer, Junyer Bear, Kip Dynamite, Tony Randle, Groucho and Bart Simpson.
Best of all, the un-named cabbie who requested a set of music that doesn't glamorize parasites and losers. Should be plenty of songs on this topic for next week so he was awarded the traditional three wishes from the WWOZ genie. Of course, I warned him about submitting his wishes in large font writing and to keep one wish in reserve, just in case he becomes the punch line for a corny joke.

Surfing USA and FUSA
A mash up of the familiar surfing song with the North Korean version. The North Korean version not only contains the FCC's F-Bomb but also concludes with three gun shots. A bit harsh for compelling propaganda but hey, perhaps the rest of the lyrics were about surfing at all the spectacular North Korean beaches. Add a bit of Annette and Frankie and I'm going over to the other side.
