Performance Poet Hedwig Gorski at Gold Mine in the French Quarter
Thursday, April 23 from 8 p.m. Open Mike follows
World performance poet Hedwig Gorski will perform pieces from her new CD of radio broadcasts titled Send in the Clown without the band and read from her art memoir Intoxication: Heathcliff on Powell Street at the Gold Mine Saloon, 701 Dauphine Street in the French Quarter, Thursday, 8 p.m. (504) 586-0745. Her public career began in New Orleans with blues musician Babe Stovall at the Jazz Fest and the underground rag NOLA Express in the 1970s. Her Slavic gypsy-artist persona and Ph.D. create a powerful woman with a voice for those exploited and invisible in America. Polish translations of her poems appear in Okolica, neo-verse drama in Karawane, and an interview in a Turkish journal are upcoming. In July/August 2009, she will appear at the Jozi Spoken Word Fest in Johannesburg, South Africa, and give a performance poetry workshop at a township high school in Gauteng province.
