Program: Jazz from the French Market with Sondra Bibb
Jazz Big Band Drummer, Louie Bellson, who played with the likes of Benny Goodman, Harry James, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington, passed away at the age of 84 on Feb. 14th. Bellson pioneered the use of two bass drums in his drum kit. He also was married to singer-actress Pearl Bailey. Today's show honored Bellson with two tracks from hils last album-a collaboration with trumpeter Clark Terry, and in between those tracks are performances from other drummers, including Herlin Riley, Winard Harper, Billy Hart, and Max Roach.
