WWOZ broadcasts a special benefit concert hosted by the Friends of New Orleans, live from the First Avenue nightclub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The fundraiser will showcase the best of New Orleans culture in bid to gain non-partisan support for rebuilding the Gulf Coast, while honoring organizations and individuals who have played an important part in New Orleans' recovery. WWOZ hits the road to broadcast for our second year in a row from the Detroit International Jazz Festival in beautiful downtown Detroit on Labor Day weekend. WWOZ and KUVO join together again to present a live broadcast of the best of Latin jazz from the Denver After 5 Jazz and Blues Festival. Grammy Award winner, bandleader and conguero Poncho Sanchez and his group will light up the stage with tropical Latin fare, jazz standards, R & B and funk.
