Shannon Powell is one the most sought after drummers and percussionists in the world. His powerful technique is steeped in the funky drum beats that emanate from the streets of New Orleans.
Powell grew up in the Treme neighborhood right outside of the French Quarter. Powell has played with Danny Barker, Ellis Marsalis, Tommy Ridgely, Johnny Adams, Kermit Ruffins, Lillian Boute, Harry Connick Jr., the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Diana Krall. He also performs and records with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and his own Preservation Hall-Stars.
Shannon will be performing live in the WWOZ studios to support us during our Spring 2010 Membership Drive.
Michael Juan Nuñez will bring his swamp-drenched South Louisiana rock-n-roll to WWOZ's studio, performing solo on acoustic guitar to support WWOZ during our Spring 2010 Membership Drive. Hosted by the Problem Child.
Acclaimed New Orleans guitarist, bassist and composer Charles Moore will be coming into WWOZ's studio to perform live during our Spring 2010 Membership Drive. Moore, brother of local bluesman Deacon John, is a bassist who easily straddles jazz and R&B. He is also an accomplished classical guitarist. Hosted by Black Mold.
Cindy Scott is an extraordinary vocalist who teaches the UNO Jazz Voices, the University of New Orleans' mixed-voice jazz vocal group. She has just released a recording, Let the Devil Take Tomorrow, produced by New Orleans jazz guitarist Brian Seeger.
Cindy and Brian will be performing live in the WWOZ studio to support us during our Spring 2010 Membership Drive on Missy Bowen's show. Tune in!
