Walter "Wolfman" Washington is a New Orleans living legend. His soulful guitar playing and low-down funky songs have been entertaining both local and international audiences for a long time.
Walter started his career off as a teenager in the 1950's by backing vocalist Lee Dorsey and then Johnny Adams, "The Tan Canary." His long-standing gigs at the Maple Leaf and d.b.a. (to name a few) have been a special source of joy for many people.
"Wolfman" is once again showing his support for WWOZ by coming in to the station to perform during the Spring 2010 Membership Drive. This will be a real treat for blues and R&B fans. Hosted by Andrew Grafe.
One of New Orleans' favorite singer/songwriters, Theresa Andersson has been gaining exposure and continuing to build momentum on the national and international scenes with appearances on Conan O'Brien and festivals all over the world. Her violin playing and multi-faceted musicianship won her Offbeat Magazine Best of the Beat Awards in the categories of "Best Rock Performer" and "Best Vionlinist/Fiddler."

When trombonist Rick Trolsen went to Rio de Janeiro in 2001 to perform as a member of the New Orleans Nightcrawlers brass band he fell in love. His complete infatuation with choro music and the works of composer Pixinguinha eventually led to the recording of this album in Rio with Brazilian artists. It’s easy to understand why a musician who is in tune with brass bands would be drawn to this music. It shares the celebratory, of-the-people, danceable qualities with the New Orleans style.
Rick and his band, Gringo do Choro, will be performing live in the WWOZ studios to support us during our Spring 2010 Membership Drive. Hosted by Dean Ellis and Suzanne Corley.
