Jazz Journey: The Spring Quartet (Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spalding and Leo Genovese)

The legendary jazz musicians Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spalding and Leo Genovese will perform together as a once-in-a-lifetime ensemble known as The Spring Quartet. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation will present the group in a special Jazz Journey concert on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at the Civic Theater in New Orleans.
 
The Christian Scott Sextet  will also perform, and Helen Gillet will provide walk in music.
 
WWOZ will be live broadcasting this event.
 
Per the Foundation, this show is sold out. "Due to extremely high demand, all available advance tickets for this event have been sold. If any seats are available the night of the show, will sell them at the box office."

On January 23, the Newman School Jazz Band will become the latest to visit WWOZ for "Cuttin' Class", a series of live in-studio performances by middle and high school age students in celebration of music education in the Greater New Orleans area, made possible by Coventry Health Care of Louisiana.

MLK Jazz Journey Concert: Kenny Garrett and Raul Midón

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation will present its third annual Martin Luther King Weekend Jazz Journey concert. This free event will take place Friday, Jan. 17, at Dillard University's Lawless Memorial Chapel. 
 
Performing live onstage will be the world-famous post-bop saxophone legend Kenny Garrett and his quintet. Garrett just received a nomination for a Grammy award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, for his "Pushing the World Away." Also performing will be the singer/songwriter/guitarist Raul Midón.
 
WWOZ will be live broadcasting this event.
 
Admission is free. No advance tickets are available. Seating is by general admission.
