Live at WWOZ: Delfeayo Marsalis

On Monday, October 25, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and members of his Uptown Jazz Orchestra will be at WWOZ's studios performing live on air beginning at 6 p.m. during Jazz from the French Market with Charles Burchell. Tune in on air or online and don't miss this very special performance by New Orleans jazz royalty. 

About Delfeayo Marsalis

As a trombonist, Delfeayo has toured internationally with legendary jazz artists Art Blakey, Abdullah Ibrahim, Elvin Jones, Slide Hampton and Max Roach, as well as touring with his own modern jazz ensemble. A mainstay on the New Orleans modern jazz scene, he has released three solo albums to critical acclaim.

Delfeayo has been involved with educating youth in various developmental programs for several years, serving as director of the Foundation for Artistic and Musical Excellence summer program in Lawrenceville, NJ from 1998 to 2002. In addition to implementing Uptown Music Theatre's Kidstown AfterSchool in three New Orleans grammar schools in 2009, he will release a new CD in 2011 entitled Sweet Thunder.

Delivering Happiness Block Party Bonerama + Mia Borders + John Michael Rouchell + Big Sam's Brass Band

The Delivering Happiness "Inspire and Be Inspired" Bus Tour is making a stop in New Orleans to throw a block party benefitting the Saint Bernard Project! Author and Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh will be leading a second line with Big Sam's Brass Band (an offshoot of the Funky Nation) from the W Hotel in the Central Business District to Girod Street between Magazine and Camp, where the party kicks off with live music, food, and more.

WWOZ will broadcast live from the block party beginning at 5:00 p.m. Tune in to hear Mia Borders and Bonerama live on air and online! 

If you're in town, drop by the block party and catch additional performers including John Michael Rouchell (of MyNameIsJohnMichael) and Big Sam's Brass Band.

2010 Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival

On October 16-17, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation held its fifth annual celebration of a match made in heaven: blues and barbeque. The 2010 Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival in Lafayette Square featured top local and national acts like Taj Mahal and the Joe Krown Trio, plus plenty of delicious food and unique visual art.

Voodoo Blues Challenge Finals

The New Orleans Voodoo Blues Krewe's Voodoo Blues Challenge finals are on October 8 at Rock & Bowl — and WWOZ will broadcast the event live on air and online! The finalists in the "band" category are Danny Alexander's Blues Band, Joe Simon's Big 3, Ernie Vincent & the Top Notes, and Lil Red & Big Bad. They'll be performing in front of a panel of judges to find out who will move on to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis next February.

In addition to the competition finalists, Little Freddie King and Big Daddy 'O will be performing — tune in and hear these amazing New Orleans blues powerhouses!
