Grammy winners and 10-time nominees BeauSoleil perform live in the WWOZ studio, in celebration of their Jan. 20 release on Yep Roc Records, Alligator Purse. The band is in town for their world premiere CD release party at the The Maple Leaf on Friday, and they play at the Blue Moon Saloon in Lafayette on Saturday, January 24.
For the upcoming 51st annual Grammy Awards, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet received a nomination in the Zydeco/Cajun category for their Munck Music CD, Live at the 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Michael Doucet received a nomination in the same category for the Smithsonian Folkways release, From Now On.
Hailing from Lafayette, Louisiana, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet take the rich Cajun traditions of Louisiana and artfully blend elements of zydeco, New Orleans jazz, Tex-Mex, country, blues and more into a satisfying musical recipe.
BeauSoleil features Michael Doucet on violin, guitar, accordion, mandolin, and vocals; David Doucet on guitar and vocals; Jimmy Breaux on accordion; percussionist Billy Ware; drummer Tommy Alesi; and Mitch Reed on fiddle and bass.

WWOZ broadcasts a tribute to Danny Barker by Detroit Brooks & the Syncopated Percolators that was recorded live at the Danny Barker Centennial Celebration in the French Market on Saturday. The all-star band features New Orleans jazz singer Juanita Brooks, her brother Detroit Brooks, Dr. Michael White, Freddie Lonzo, Greg Stafford, Steve Pastorius, Jesse Boyd, and Jerry Anderson, Jr.

WWOZ will broadcast a performance by Greg Stafford & the Jazz Hounds that was recorded live at the Danny Barker Centennial Celebration in the French Market on Saturday. The musical tribute to Danny Barker was performed by an all-star traditional jazz band that includes Greg Stafford, Dr. Michael White, Freddie Lonzo, Bernie Attridge, Seva Venet, and Shannon Powell.
