Get your dancing shoes on, because Mid-City Rock ‘n Bowl has a trio of Zydeco artists scheduled for the Thanksgiving holiday season. And, all of them are sons of Zydeco legends, so it looks to be a great time on Carrollton Ave. First up on Thursday, November 17 is Lil’ Nathan and the Zydeco Big Tymers. Nathan recorded his first CD at age 14. His daddy is, of course, Nathan Williams Sr., who fronted the first Zydeco band to play Rock ‘n Bowl. Then on Saturday, November 19, another son of a Zydeco legend, Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr. will take the stage with his exciting upbeat two-stepping music. Dopsie Jr. began in 1993 as the only rub-board player to front a Zydeco band. Then on Thanksgiving night, Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie come to town. One of the mainstays of the Zydeco scene at Rock n’ Bowl, Geno first played drums with his father, John Delafose.
Zydeco is best heard when you can grab a partner and dance. The wood floor at Rock n’ Bowl is great and there are always folks to dance with. Not sure you know what to do? Well, there are lots of regulars ready to give you a quick lesson, so don’t hesitate.
