'OZone Email Newsletter for August, 2011

'OZone Newsletter

Dear Listener,

In an interesting change of pace I’ve been asked to share a few thoughts to warm you up to the latest OZone. Here goes.

In the thirteen plus years that I’ve been with WWOZ I’ve seen the station grow in ways that I never imagined possible. Once upon a time we had to go the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation offices three blocks away to send or receive faxes (remember those?), office space was so cramped that even the rodents were looking for a way out, and half-pigs were given away during our fund drives (don’t ask). What kept us going was the knowledge that WWOZ was doing its best to celebrate and promote the music and culture of New Orleans and the region. This was never more evident than in the weeks following August 29, 2005.

A lot has happened since the Thing-That-Shall-Remain-Nameless six years ago. WWOZ has relocated, gained national and international recognition, and shows no signs of slowing down. Our music library has been digitized and is now accessible for the first time in years, real-time playlists are on the verge of being shared on our website, and our family of volunteers and supporters increases every day.

We’re not going anywhere and hope you aren’t either. Keep listening.

Dark Chocolate Mousse with Citrus and Grand Marnier

A favorite combination of orange and chocolate.

Impress your friends with a fancy dessert from one of our favorite soul food restaurants in New Orleans, Dooky Chase. Dooky Chase may be better known for its homestyle fried chicken and lunchtime buffets, but this is something worth whipping up just for the "oohs" and "ahhs." If you like the recipe, then visit Louisiana Cookin' magazine. Subscribe with the promotion code wwoz2011, and they'll donate $5 to WWOZ.
