'OZone Email Newsletter for November, 2009

'OZone Newsletter

Dear Listener,

Just in case you weren't taking notes, WWOZ broadcast over 55 acts live this past month, including Jon Cleary, Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band, Bobby Rush, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and Irma Thomas to name just a few!

After all this plus a magnificent, high-energy Fall Membership Drive, our neverquit volunteers and staff are tuckered. Of course, in New Orleans the only solution when you're too pooped to pop is.... party ‘til you drop! That's just what we did at the WWOZ Volunteer Appreciation Party on November 4th at the Rock 'N Bowl.

And we're not done yet! On November 19th, there's a special WWOZ Social Aid and Pleasure Club Soiree, followed by our December 3rd Volunteer Appreciation Party/WWOZ Birthday Bash at the Crescent City Brewhouse.

But first things first: May you have a Thanksgiving with a cornucopia of things to be thankful for. All of us at WWOZ sure do!

Yours in gravy boats and root beer floats,

WWOZ Gives Thanks... To You!

Happy ThanksgivingIt's no secret what listener-supported WWOZ has to be thankful for this year - you! We are extremely grateful to all of our new and renewing members over the past year, and we want to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving! Your contributions are already going towards vital projects like the digitization of our CDs and volunteer training, and of course they help keep the greatest station in the nation serving up hot and spicy music for your ears to gobble!

Voodoo Experience 2009 Highlights

Voodoo Highlights

WWOZ had a blast at Voodoo — and we hope you did too! Our Hospitality Tent was a smashing success, and we hope our listeners across the globe enjoyed our live broadcasts of acts like Big Sam's Funky Nation and Trombone Shorty from the WWOZ/SoCo Stage. We took plenty of photos and our bloggers worked hard to document the Experience, so check out our highlights from Halloween's biggest party.

Fiesta Latina

Fiesta LatinaThe New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation celebrates the Latin roots of New Orleans music with Fiesta Latina at Zephyr Field in Metairie, LA on November 21. Live music will include local groups like Rumba Buena, Fredy Omar, Otra, Vivaz and others, as well as Los Hermanos Rosario from the Dominican Republic and Grupo Fantasma from Austin — and 'OZ will be broadcasting live from the event! There'll also be plenty of Latin cuisine, a crafts fair, and local nonprofit organization booths, plus soccer tournaments and clinics for kids and adults.

WWOZ 29th Birthday Bash

WWOZ Volunteers

WWOZ celebrates its 29th birthday this December, thanks to the continued support of our members and volunteers! We've been on the air 24/7 through thick and thin since 1980, and we've achieved some amazing things through volunteer power, which we're celebrating again this year at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party/WWOZ Birthday Bash. We thank our current volunteers for all the work they do, and we always look forward to seeing new volunteer faces around the station and at events.

Celebrate New Orleans Cuisine!

Poboy Festival The 3rd annual New Orleans Po-Boy Preservation Festival will be served up on November 22 on Oak Street in celebration of our most famous sandwich. The Treme Gumbo Festival, presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, is on December 12-13, with lots of live music and cooking demonstrations. The 'OZ Outreach Krewe will be there to sign up new members and volunteers, and we'll be selling 'OZ gear at bargain prices during the annual Jazz & Heritage Holiday Bazaar, where you can also get official Jazz Fest t-shirts, posters and memorabilia.
