The third annual Congo Square Rhythms Festival, presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, takes place on Sunday, November 15, in New Orleans' Louis Armstrong Park. The festival celebrates Congo Square's African roots and its role as the cradle of jazz with live music, food, and crafts.
Changes take place in my neighborhood in small increments these days. We wake to another house starting repairs or to another being finished --- and still a few lay dormant. The kudzu and politicians ruin one thing after another, and without a glance, the people begin each day rebuilding the city....and dream that their Saints will end up in a Super Bowl.
The 20th Anniversary Mirliton Festival comes to the Bywater on Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Live music includes Alex McMurray, Happy Talk Band, Panorama Jazz Band, and many more. And after you've stuffed yourself with all the delicious food from dozens of local vendors like Sucré, the Joint, and Satsuma Café, stop by the WWOZ booth and say hi!
We preview the upcoming Po-Boy Preservation Festival in the Oak Street Corridor of New Orleans. Celebrating its third year, the festival features food from 40 vendors this year, along with an Artist's Village and two stages. We also feature one of the bands playing at the fest - Los Po-Boy-Citos - an ensemble that brings Latin soul together with the New Orleans groove.
