Thanksgiving is by far the nation's most boring holiday. Even the main event - gorging on food is compromised by the selection. Turkey' tastes like plywood and the second and third place finishers, potatoes and stuffing, are only edible if covered in gravy fat.
This month's recipe is a Savory Sweet Potato Stew, just in time to warm you up for the chilly winter months. It comes to us from Angelique Page of Chicago, IL, and was featured in the October issue of Louisiana Cookin' magazine.
Brilliant jazz saxophonist Wessell "Warmdaddy" Anderson will appear tonight (Thursday, November 12th at 8 and 10 p.m.) at Snug Harbor along with Victor Adkins (p), Ed Perkins (s), Troy Davis (d) and Roland Guerin (b) in what promises to be incredible shows.
The third annual Congo Square Rhythms Festival, presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, takes place on Sunday, November 15, in New Orleans' Louis Armstrong Park. The festival celebrates Congo Square's African roots and its role as the cradle of jazz with live music, food, and crafts.
Changes take place in my neighborhood in small increments these days. We wake to another house starting repairs or to another being finished --- and still a few lay dormant. The 20th Anniversary Mirliton Festival comes to the Bywater on Saturday, November 7, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Live music includes Alex McMurray, Happy Talk Band, Panorama Jazz Band, and many more. And after you've stuffed yourself with all the delicious food from dozens of local vendors like Sucré, the Joint, and Satsuma Café, stop by the WWOZ booth and say hi!
