Earlier this year Turner opened Henry Turner Jr.s’ Listening Room in Baton Rouge. The venue was a huge success, showcasing up and coming acts, national touring and local acts every Thursday and Friday evening. The smoke free and alcohol free environment also housed some of the bands extensive collection of memorabilia, as well as serving up southern Soul Food side dishes. It also provided a place for Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor to prepare for their annual Ultimate Louisiana Tour III of Texas, Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington State. Highlights of this years’ tour included opening for the classic R&B band Rose Royce at the 53rd Lions Club Watermelon Festival at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California and being named as an Official Music Ambassador for the State of Louisiana.
Comments Henry Turner, Jr., “I am very pleased that Eric Cager, the founder of the CE Conference, specifically asked me to try to replicate the vibe of the Listening Room in New Orleans for this event. It’s been a good year, but also a sad year as Ronnie Houston, who has played drums with me in the band, for more than twenty years, succumbed to CODP (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) early in July. It was hard to play his song “Fat Baby” and not hear him singing it in his raspy and distinctive voice.”
Henry Turner Jr.s’ Listening Room, Special Presentation night will feature multiple acts for the New Works Showcase beginning at 10:00pm. Performers include Ali Melissa Schaff of New Orleans, Gulf Shores resident Kristen Long, Dixie Taylor of Baton Rouge, Amanda McDowell of Farmerville, Latin songstress Jessi Campo of Miami, with Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor taking the stage around 1:00am.
Eric Cager, founder of CE adds, “Over the years Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor have shared our culture and music playing everything from small clubs to major concert venues. His Ultimate Louisiana Party tours have been a big hit across America and the band has always been big supporters of the CE. We are now very happy that we can introduce a new generation of musicians to their wonderful blend of soul, reggae and funk music.”
