Los Caballeros del Son are one of the premiere Latin music groups currently performing in South Lousiana. The group plays traditional Cuban “Son” music. “Son” is the foundation of all Cuban dance music and originally hails from Eastern Cuba. It’s closely related to Cuban “Trova” music, taking the poetic and playful ballads with guitar accompaniment from Trova, and adding in dance rhythms with percussion, bass and other melodic instruments.
The group led by Baton Rouge-based Cuban-born Guillermo “El Mono” (the Monkey) Guzmán. Guzmán started playing in his father’s big band at age 9 in his native Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. He plays piano, percussion and bass and is joined by lifelong musical accomplice Alexis Guevara Muñoz, also from Ciego de Ávila, on lead vocals and guitar. They will be joined by New Orleans-based, Havana-born percussionist Alexey Martí, Puerto Rican bassist Jorge Pérez and other special guests.
The animal-loving acts contributing their talents to the cause are: LAUGH IN THE DARK, SWEET JONES, EMELIE GUIDRY and CLAUDE BRYANT AND THE ALL STARS, with more special guests to be announced.
In addition to great live music, guests will be treated to door prizes, a raffle and silent auction to benefit the charity. Adorable rescued pets seeking loving homes will also be on hand to meet the crowd.
All proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of Louisiana's 'Enoch J. Donaldson Animal Sanctuary'. The charity has purchased 47.5 acres in Washington parish with the ambitious goal of opening the state's premier and largest no-kill facility. The sanctuary will house animals saved from cruelty and abuse and animals rescued from shelters in the Greater New Orleans area.
The Humane Society of Louisiana is a grassroots local charity, founded in the New Orleans in 1988. The charity is a licensed 'pet detective' agency specializing in the investigation and prevention of animal abuse. For more than 25 years, the group has advocated compassion and nonviolence for all animals around Louisiana.
