Volunteers with Camp Pelican organized a benefit family concert to raise money for Camp Pelican, a weeklong free camp for children with pulmonary disorders. And, the benefit proceeds will enable other opportunities throughout the year for picnics and reunions for the campers. Pelicanpalooza is the largest fundraiser for Camp Pelican—this is the 12th year, and we hope to make it the best yet!
Pelicanpalooza will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Southport Hall in Jefferson, LA. The doors open at 12:00 pm, and the first band begins at 1:00 pm.
Groovy 7, MoJEAUX, Weathered, and iRob featuring Chuck Credo and Friends (with Rob Schulte of the Topcats and Chuck Credo of The Mixed Nuts, along with other musicians) are providing entertainment. Rockin Dopsie Jr. may make an appearance, as well. Returning to emcee this year’s event is local comedian, James Cusimano, and Fox 8’s Bruce Katz.
The cover charge is $20.00 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 5-12, and 100% of the proceeds benefit Camp Pelican’s campers. Children wearing their Camp Pelican shirts get in for free. There will be lots of raffle drawings, and silent and live auctions for gift certificates to local businesses; autographed items from LSU and Saints; tickets to New Orleans attractions; hotel stays; and, more! Games2u is participating with entertainment for the children, and there will be a Spacewalk, as well.
Each year, through the power of a summer camp experience, the Louisiana Pulmonary Disease Camp Inc. (Camp Pelican) transforms the lives of approximately 100 children with pulmonary disorders (Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, and ventilator-dependent) from across the State of Louisiana. Since 1978, Camp Pelican has offered children with various lung diseases a weeklong, overnight summer camp experience—at no cost to their caregivers. It costs approximately $750 per camper to host this rare and awesome opportunity for the campers. Louisiana Pulmonary Disease Camp Inc., a non-profit organization, was started in 1976, and Camp Pelican has thrived since 1978, with the help of hundreds of volunteers, including high school students, respiratory therapists, doctors, and nurses. Camp volunteers provide medical care and lots of fun for the campers during camp week. Camp Pelican is unique because it is one of the only camps in the United States that accepts ventilator-dependent children, without a caregiver having to attend camp with them.
Please join us on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Southport Hall, 200 Monticello Ave., New Orleans, LA to support Camp Pelican—Pelicanpalooza will warm your heart and make your day!
