More than two decades ago, two musicians named June, one from New Orleans and one from Japan, met and played together in Japan. The Japanese musician decided to move to New Orleans based on this meeting.
He's been here ever since and has established himself as a top funk guitarist. It’s taken 25 years to get them together on stage again. They will be at Chickie Wah Wahon Saturday night, July 12 as June Squared.
The band features June Yamagishiof Poppa Grows Funk and 101 Runners, and June Victory of the Bayou Renegades and the Spy Boy All-Stars. Also on stage will be Big Chief David Montana of the YellowPocahontas; Alfred 'Uganda' Roberts, who played congas with Professor Longhair; Bayou Renegadedrummer Jasmin; the bass player is Danny Wharton; Jordan Darcy will be handling the keyboards.
The music to be featured by June Squared is one of New Orleans' greatest musical hybrids, Indian Funk. Bands like 101 Runners, the Spy Boy Allstars and theBayou Renegades are the top purveyors of this uniquely Crescent City sound.

The local trio “Laugh in the Dark” will be performing an eclectic and erratic array of folk, country, blues, sea shanties, murder ballads, psychedelic vibe & gypsy thrashing in a relaxed intimate setting at LA46. Laugh In The Dark consists of the sensual Miss Kitty on vocals, Brad Orgeron on guitar and vocals; and Rick Nick on guitar, mandolin and banjo.
