14th Annual Maafa* Commemoration – Congo Square Louis Armstrong Park. Free & open to the public. *Maafa, which means tragedy in Swahili is used to describe the centuries of global oppression of African people during the middle passage, slavery and colonial rule. The commemoration invites the whole community to pause and reflect on the great transgression of slavery.
Soul Creole is a south Louisiana super group featuring Louis Michot of the Lost Bayou Ramblers on fiddle, Grammy nominee Corey “Lil’ Pop” Ledet on diatonic accordion, zydeco trendsetter Cedryl Ballou on drums,Chad Fouquier on bass and Ashlee Michot on t-fer. All five members sing a diverse repertoire of English and French language tunes.
