New this year: A vegan gumbo contest with celebrity judges (there will be plenty of regular gumbo, too), a special appearance by the LadyFest YeMaYa parade and a "shake your tail feather" dance contest of female dance groups.
All that plus a huge arts market and a constellation of the city's best brass bands.
New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) and The NOCCA Institute co-present India’s foremost Kathak dance master, Pandit Chitresh Das, and Emmy award-winning tap star, Jason Samuels Smith, in India Jazz Suites, a unique East-meets-West dance and music event.
India Jazz Suites is a phenomenal partnership between Das and Smith, with live musical accompaniment from three classical Indian musicians and a stellar jazz trio that drives this program. The performance celebrates the stars’ classical Indian Kathak and American-based tap dance styles, and the blending of the two in a blast of incredible speed and power, grace and beauty, epic storytelling and the pure joy of dance.
In honor of Veterans Day, the New Orleans Concert Band (NOCB) will be performing their annual Veterans Day concert on Sunday, November 10 at the UNO Performing Arts Center’s Recital Hall. The concert, which begins at 1 p.m., is free and open to the public, and can be enjoyed by the whole family as a way to honor our nation’s Veterans and support the New Orleans music community.
The concert will feature patriotic favorites and some show tune classics, including "Armed Forces Salute" and "American Salute" plus highlights from That's Entertainment.
