The Algiers Economic Development Foundation (AEDF) announces the line up for the 6th annual Wednesdays on the Point riverfront festival series. This year's series includes shows every Wednesday, May 29-July 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. All concerts take place at 200 Morgan Street riverside where the Algiers Ferry Terminal meets the levee. A special 4th of July concert will return for it's third year entertaining guests from 5 to 9 p.m. prior to the dueling riverboat fireworks extravaganza on the Mississippi River.
Rocky’s Hot Fox Trot Orchestra: Celebrate the traditions of our New Orleans swing era with an energetic, upbeat concert for the 4th of July. The program will include hits from the era of the WWII, the “greatest generation”, popular modern tunes, and patriotic tributes. This full swing ensemble features vocalists Yvette Voelker and Karen Stoehr, who also perform with the Pfister Sisters. For more information on the band, see their website: www.rockyshftoblogspot.com.
'OZ's new New Modern Jazz Concert Series Features Local Legends at the Prime Example
Out of response to a dearth of modern jazz offerings in the local live music scene, WWOZ's Soul Sister reconnected the station (where she's done a show for nearly 2 decades) with local jazz enthusiast, promoter, and Prime Example club owner Julius Kimbrough to present and promote a newly revived concert series, allowing patrons to enjoy and "swing" to living legends of modern New Orleans jazz in an intimate, neighborhood lounge setting.
The Prime Example Jazz Club and WWOZ present "Thursday Night Swingin'."
Where: The Prime Example Jazz Club, 1909 North Broad St.
Admission is $15. (WWOZ members receive special discounted $10 admission with their membership card.)
