Austin's most adventurous rock band, The Invincible Czars, will bring all the wit, humor, patriotism and fun they can muster to 3-Ring Circus on 6/29 with their annual Olde Fashioned Pre-Fourth of July Indoor Picnic.
Picnic baskets and blankets are encouraged and hula hoops and other fun stuff will be provided. Best of all, prizes will be awarded for the best-dressed olde-fashioned girl, boy and adult.
The event centers on a performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, which the Invincible Czars released last year for the bicentennial of the event that inspired it: Napoleon's defeat at Borodino by the Russian army in 1812. This year, the band will keep that tradition and add instrumental material from their recent silent film projects as well as compositions by Sousa, Satie, Ravel, Mussorgsky and Ween.
The Great Race, the world’s premiere old car rally, is expected to bring up to 100 antique automobiles to historic downtown Covington. The antique cars will be parked along New Hampshire and Lockwood streets, near the Covington Trailhead, 419 N. New Hampshire Street, around 5 p.m, June 29.
In honor of the City’s Bicentennial Celebration, there will be live music by the New Orleans-based band Swingaroux from 6:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Covington Trailhead.
