Mardi Gras Indians - Mardi Gras Day

DATE
Tue, Feb 12, 2013
TIME
6:00am - 6:00pm

We can't tell you exactly where to go to see Indians on Mardi Gras day, but here are some ideas on where to look.  Mardi Gras Indian tribes will come out in their neighborhood and then move around town to "play the game" as they go through ritual encounters with other tribes.  In the lower 9th ward, the tribes come out in their respective neighborhood and then meet up on St. Claude.  In the 9th and 7th wards the tribes also usually meet up on St. Claude.  A.P. Tureaud Ave also usually has Mardi Gras Indians on Mardi Gras morning.  Most downtown tribes will make their way to Claiborne Ave under the bridge at some point during the day.  If it's raining then many tribes may even make their debut of "coming out" for the day under the Claiborne Ave bridge.

Uptown tribes will come out in their neighborhood and many Downtown and Uptown tribes will make their way to the area around 2nd and Dryades at some point during the day.  Jackson Ave and Simon Bolivar are also common routes to see Indians on Mardi Gras morning.
