Congo Drummers, Brazilian guitarists and Master Kora Player to perform for patrons

(New Orleans, LA) – Music, art and food from around the world will be the focus at the inaugural gala of the International High School of New Orleans on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 7-10 p.m. at the school in the Central Business District. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the Patron Party held in honor of the event’s sponsors.

School officials say the international fundraising event will allow gala patrons to experience culture from all parts of the globe at the downtown school located at 727 Carondelet Street. More than 200 guests are expected to attend the school’s first fundraising gala.

International music sponsored by the Musician’s Clinic will highlight the evening gala, featuring Congo Preservation Society Drummers, Brazilian guitarists, Irish bagpipe players and Egyptian belly dancers. Tango demonstrations and lessons will be available to patrons. Brice Miller of the Mahogany Brass Band will also perform.

Renowned international artists who live in the New Orleans area such as Hugo Montero, Marcus Brown, Haitham Eid, and Meyrt Harding will be on hand to unveil special artworks commissioned for the school’s gala. Food from several different cultures will be cooked and served at the event.

“In a city where international influence has thrived for nearly 300 years, there is no better place than the International High School for a celebration of all the world’s cultures, art, food and entertainment,” said Anthony Amato, Head of School.

Gala tickets are on sale at $100 for a couple and $60 for individuals by calling Kari Ayala at the IHSNO at 504-613-5703, or tickets can be purchased online at All funds raised for the event benefit the school which has a current enrollment of over 450 students.

IHSNO, founded only three years ago as a Type 2 Charter School free of charge for students across the state, recently received the designation as an International Baccalaureate World School, a distinction only held by 2 percent of high schools in America and the only one of its kind in New Orleans. At the International High School of New Orleans, students are offered the cutting-edge opportunity to prepare for today’s global economy. Next year, IHSNO will celebrate its first graduating class.
