The Interrupters

DATE
Tue, Feb 28, 2012
TIME
6:30pm - 9:00pm

NOFS and Ashe Cultural Arts Center present a FREE screening of the documentary film THE INTERRUPTERS. The event is open to the public.

An epic tale of courage and hope, The Interrupters is a new film by director/producer Steve James and author-turned-producer Alex Kotlowitz whose original article inspired the film.

The film follows a year in the life of the city as it grapples with the plague of urban violence. At the heart of the story are Ameena Matthews, Cobe Williams and Eddie Bocanegra, each of whom has credibility on the street because of their own personal histories. With gumption, wisdom and wit, they work to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they themselves once employed. These “Violence Interrupters” work for CeaseFire, a local organization whose guiding principle is that the spread of violence mimics the spread of infectious diseases, and so respond with similar treatment: go after the most infected, and stop the infection at its source.

WRBH Reading Radio's 8th Annual Pat Browne/Radio for the Blind Golf Tournament

DATE
Fri, May 11, 2012
TIME
12:30pm - 7:00pm

WRBH Reading Radio will hold its 8th Annual Pat Browne/Radio for the Blind Golf Tournament on Friday May 11, 2012 at the Audubon Golf Course. Registration and lunch begin at 12:30 with a shotgun start at 1:30. The tournament will be followed with a 19th Hole Party and Crawfish Boil. We are pleased that Pat Browne, Jr., has once again agreed to participate in this event. Mr. Browne has captured the United States Blind Golfers Association National Championship 23 times.

At WRBH our mission is to turn the written word into the spoken word so that the blind and print handicapped have the same ease of access to printed materials as their sighted peers. All proceeds from this event will go towards sustaining that mission. For more information about participating in this tournament please visit www.wrbh.org or call Rachel at 504.899.1144 or email her at rachel@wrbh.org.
