The songs trace the life of Sally Hemings from her earliest memory to her sojourn in Paris with Jefferson, and finally her life with Jefferson at Monticello until his death. Sung by mezzo soprano Givonna Joseph, accompanied by pianist Dr. Wilfred Delphin. By donation.

9th Annual Regional Adult Education Graduation

The Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans (LAGNO) will host the 9th Annual Regional Adult Education graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 14, at 10:00a.m. The event will take place at Roussel Hall on Loyola University’s Campus. More than 100 graduates will celebrate passing the HiSET (formerly GED) exam as they walk across the stage and receive their diplomas to the cheers of family and friends.

Judges Clare Jupiter and Regina H. Bartholomew will join educators from around New Orleans in presenting diplomas to the graduates. Hal Clark, host of WYLD 98.5’s “Sunday Journal,” will serve as emcee for the event. Graduates from educational programs at Hope House, Jefferson Parish Adult Education Program, Youth Empowerment Program, St. Bernard Adult Education Program, YES Adult Education Services, St. Vincent de Paul Adult Education Services, and Bridge City Correctional Center will take part in the ceremony.

4th Annual Crawfish Boil Presented by The Barman's Fund

This Memorial Day, The Barman’s Fund of Louisiana is hosting their 4th Annual Crawfish Boil to benefit Help for Heroes, Inc, an organization that offers support to local police, firefighters and first responders injured in the line of duty. Every bartender working the party will be donating 100% of their tips to pool with the money raised by crawfish and merchandise sales.
The event is free and open to the public.
“We'll serve up 1,000 pounds of crawfish, enjoy 5 musical acts, shut down 1 city block, toast with 25 volunteers, and party with 1,000 of our closest friends all for 1 CAUSE. We are excited to invite the community to come out and ‘drink with purpose’ this Memorial Day.”
