Herman’s House tells the story of the unlikely friendship between Jackie Sumell, a young, politically engaged New York artist and Herman Wallace, a convicted murderer in his 70s who has spent the last 40 years in solitary confinement at the Angola State Penitentiary in Louisiana. Sumell befriends Wallace, and through letters and extended conversations their friendship develops. Sumell wonders how Herman Wallace achieves any feelings of freedom. Concluding that he can only feel freedom by dreaming it, she once asks Wallace to describe his “dream house.” Wallace's response would inspire Sumell to create a model of the house, complete with swimming pool and gardens. The model along with a recreation of Wallace’s prison cell would ultimately become an art installation that has appeared in 12 galleries in five different countries, including a stint at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans during the 2008-09 Prospect 1 Art Exhibit.

Westway to the World is the only full, unexpurgated story of one of rock music's legendary acts. Blasting away from the parochial concerns of the London punk scene of the late 1970's, the Clash explored and expanded musical boundaries like no act before, experimenting with reggae, funk, rap, and dance music during their short, but influential seven years in existence. This documentary, directed by filmmaker Don Letts, combines rare performance footage with interviews from the entire band, including leader Joe Strummer, who passed away just two years after this film's 2000 release.

In Detroit, Michigan, 1959, Berry Gordy gathered the best musicians from the city's thriving jazz and blues scene for his new record company: Motown. For the next 14 years these players became the heartbeat on classics like "My Girl," "Baby Love," and every other hit from Motown's Detroit era. By the end of their phenomenal run, the unheralded group of musicians played on more Number 1 hits than the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley, and The Beatles combined, making them the greatest unknown hit machine in the history of popular music. Decades later, the Funk Brothers reunite back in Detroit to tell their unforgettable story.

Her presentation is called: The Plants That Create the World's Great Drinks Join Amy Stewart at Longue Vue for an exploration of the dizzying array of plants that humans have, through ingenuity, inspiration, and sheer desperation, contrived to transform into alcohol. From the sugar cane that gives us Caribbean rum, to the juniper berries that flavor gin, to the odd and obscure fruits that flavor Italian liqueurs, Amy Stewart takes a most intoxicating perspective on the leaves, bark, seeds, roots, flowers, and fruit imbibed around the world. It's the compelling mixture of history, science, literature and humor that Stewart is known for.

This fundraiser is going to be a traditional Hawaiian Luau held at Indulge Island Grill, the brand new restaurant, fitness center and pool club in the Warehouse District. We will be offering guests at the event live entertainment by New Orleans’ own Hawaii 504 and the NOLA Hula dancers, a pig roast with all the amenities, cupcakes from the Kupcake Factory, open bar, pool party and a great silent auction. We are raising money to bring concierges from around the country to New Orleans in 2015 in hopes that we can spread our recovery around the country and attract more visitors. We will also be donating a portion of the proceeds from this event to a local charity called LowerNine.Org. We are hoping that this may become a yearly event that will allow us continued fundraising as well as support for local charities.
Charlotte Zwering ('Gimme Shelter') has created the definitive portrait of the master bop pianist-composer, digging deep into the life of the famously eccentric pianist-composer. The film fleshes out Monk’s character considerably – from his harmonic theories to his use of quarter–tones (produced by hitting 2 adjacent piano keys simultaneously and occasionally even striking the boards with his entire forearm or foot), to his mysterious relationship with his patron, baroness Nica de Koenigswarter. Monk’s music, naturally, is at the center of this canny portrait, giving fans cause to rejoice since most of the movie’s performances had been previously unavailable. (1988)
