Joan of Arc Parade

DATE
Tue, Jan 6, 2015
TIME
6:00pm - 7:30pm

Celebrating St. Joan of Arc’s birthday, New Orleans’ French heritage and Twelfth Night, the Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc walking parade is styled as a medieval saint procession and festival, “set” in Joan’s time in 1400s France. It’s a short, family-friendly parade — quirky, whimsical and sometimes spiritual. The public is invited to watch the parade and join us at the end of the parade (7-7:30ish) at Washington Artillery Park for the crowning of the king and our first king cake of the 2015 Carnival season. The krewe will have some king cake to share but parade goers are encouraged to bring their own king cake to share and perhaps some picnic wine or pick up a hot drink from one of the coffee shops next to Washington Artillery Park.

Phunny Phorty Phellows "Herarld the Arrival of Carnival"

DATE
Tue, Jan 6, 2015
TIME
7:00pm - 9:00pm

The Phunny Phorty Phellows annual Streetcar Ride along the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar Line to Herarld the Arrival of Carnival 2015.

The costumed and masked krewe assemble on Twelfth Night, Tuesday, January 6th at the Willow Street Car Barn at 6:30pm and depart at 7pm sharp. Of course the Storyville Stompers Brass Band ride with us.

All are invited to attend the merriment and see the PPP off, and possibly recieve a Phunny Phorty Phellows Phavor.

The PPP is an historic Mardi Gras organization that first took to the streets 1878 through 1898. They were known for their satirical parades and today¹s krewe members’ costumes often reflect topical themes. The group was revived in 1981. One Carnival historian has referred to the organization as the “Dessert of Carnival.”
