Musicollaborative is excited to announce its upcoming FamJam Playshops for children 18 months-age 6 and the adults who love them. On Saturday, May 25th, Musicollaborative will present a Parent-Child FamJam at 10am for parents and their children 18mos-age 3, as well as a Multi-Age FamJam at 11:30 for siblings 18mos-6 years and their caregivers. Registration is now open for these affordable sessions hosted by the Annette West Music Studio near Tipitina's uptown. The FamJams will highlight the musical styles of New Orleans and south Louisiana, while offering opportunities to explore hand drums, movement and singing. May 27, 2013, Memorial Day, Quarter Rat Monthly (QRM) is hosting a crawfish boil competition at Bayou Beer Garden in the Mid City neighborhood of New Orleans. The proceeds from the event will be directed to The Barman’s Fund, a group of local bartenders who pool tips to support the community. This month’s charities are STAIR, a group working one on one with students to assist them with reading skills, and Crescent City Lights Youth Theatre, to sponsor 4 children attending the summer program. There will be a $10 cover charge for the event and the QRM Boil Champion will be decided by tips collected at each table. At least 4 local businesses will be boiling.

Beat those hurricane season blues! StormFest 2013 consists of several parts: a Preparedness Fair, an Outdoor Fest, and a Mini FilmFest, at Holy Angels in the Bywater.
Preparedness Fair includes Evacuteer.org, LA Bucket Brigade, LA-SPCA, St. Anna’s Medical Mission, NOLA Techie, Entergy New Orleans, and more. Outdoors at the Fest, music from the Goodchldren Band and the Bucket Brigade Drummers, a giant parachute, giant puppets, make-and-take bucket drums and magic pinwheels. Food and beverage vendors include Sankofa HEAL, Gimme Tacos, EmpaNOLA, and Austin’s Gourmet to Go.
Film screenings will take place in the Chapel, and include: “We Shall Not Be Moved”, “Hexing a Hurricane”, “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore”, “Musical Therapy”, and “Flood Streets”.
Following the Fest, we will gather and process to the River for Horns Against Hurricanes, a musicians ritual since 2007.

The Homer A. Plessy Community School will hold its second annual All Aboard Gala on Friday, June 7th, 2013 6:30-9:30 pm at the Marigny Opera House, 725 St. Ferdinand Street, New Orleans. The All Aboard Gala will feature live music from Kiyoko McCrae, Michael James and the Valparaiso Men's Chorus, delectable food, beer & wine and a silent auction stocked with gift certificates, jewelry, wine, objects of art and other choice items.
