New Orleans’ Confederate monuments have dominated conversation citywide over the past year, with heated debate over whether the landmarks represent symbols of hate that should be removed from public spaces, or embodiments of history that should be preserved. Despite the city’s call for contractors to officially tear down the monuments, the controversy is far from over. So what comes next? On May 17, 2016, Tulane Hillel will host Taking a Stand on Statues: a panel on Confederate monuments in New Orleans, through its Big Issue panel series. Moderated by WWL-TV’s investigative reporter David Hammer, this panel will delve into the nuances surrounding the opposing sides of the issue. Panelists will include: Quess Moore, Advocate, Take‘Em Down NOLA Molly Mitchell, Associate Professor and Chair, UNO Center for New Orleans Studies Rick Marksbury, Professor, Tulane University Kodi Roberts, Assistant Professor, LSU
