Opening Reception for Crafts Celebrating Carnival: Prints by Christopher Kirsch and Paper Mache’ Sculptures by Brian Bush

Thursday, February 1, 2018 -
5:00pm to 8:00pm
Get into the spirit of carnival season with the crafts that make Mardi Gras! La GUILD’s latest artist spotlight will showcase local New Orleans members of the Louisiana Crafts Guild, printmaker Christopher Kirsch and paper mache’ builder Brian Bush. ⚜️ The show’s opening reception on Thursday, February 1, will feature king cake, refreshments, and door prizes to win original artwork by Kirsch and Bush. Additionally, there will be a live printmaking demo by Kirsch. ⚜️ Printmaker Christopher Kirsch will feature his collection “Creatures of Carnival”, a series that resurrects the whimsical artwork from turn of the 20th century era Proteus and Comus parades into hand-colored relief prints to printed renditions of his personal Mardi Gras costumes over the years. Kirsch, a member of The Skeleton Krewe, founded in 1999,, will display one of his original handmade costumes depicted in one of his prints. The paper mache’ technique that Bush masters has been used in Mardi Gras celebrations since the beginning but has recently begun to fade in New Orleans’s modern float-building as new technologies have been introduced. Stop in to the 2nd Level of Canal Place, just off the downtown parade route, throughout the season to explore this collection and for a free Mardi Gras mask-making craft! ⚜️ For more information on this event, please call La GUILD at 504-592-7633 or send us a Facebook Message.
