A workshop on sound for New Orleans

Tuesday, December 5, 2017 - 8:30am
Members of the community, business owners and operators, musicians, members of the city government and sound enthusiasts are invited to attend a workshop on sound. The Workshop will provide information on the current work being performed on sound issues in New Orleans, human perception of sound, and the soundscape method, presented by speakers from the Crescent City and around the world. Sound and the perception of sound will be examined in the context of quality of life, culture, and economy, with opportunity for discussions. The workshop will be followed by a sound walk in the afternoon from 3:00pm-4:00pm across the French Quarter to listen to and evaluate the soundscape, leaving from the lobby of the Royal Orleans Hotel. The workshop was made possible by an initiative from the Technical Committees on Architectural Acoustics and Noise of the Acoustical Society of America; additional support was provided by the French Quarter Management District and the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel.
