Clean Water, Clean Food Forum

Thursday, November 16, 2017 - 7:00pm
Industrial-scale agriculture is America's number one source of water pollution. Over half of our waterways are contaminated with nitrate from fertilizer, and toxic agricultural run-off has created the largest deadzone in history in The Gulf oF Mexico. Our environment, our health, and our economy are at risk. The vast majority of this agriculture is produced to feed livestock animals. In other words, the meat industry is driving massive amounts of pollution - but is capable of driving solutions. We all deserve clean water. Mighty Earth's #CleanItUpTyson campaign is mobilizing people across the country to ask Tyson Foods, America's largest meat corporation, to act more sustainably. Simple and cheap changes to their supply chain would dramatically reduce the meat industry's impact, and protect our water. Join us on Thursday, November 16, for a panel discussion bringing forward different perspectives on this issue. A sustainable food system is possible, and is supported by farmers and ranchers, scientists, healthcare professionals, and social justice groups. Hear from different and diverse leaders in our community about the problem, the solutions, and how you can help! Then stay after to enjoy a beer at the local Urban South Brewery Taproom. Panelists include: Matt Rota - Senior Policy Director with Gulf Restoration Network Acy Cooper - President of the LA Shrimp Association Dylan Maisel - Owner of The Daily Beet & JuiceNOLA
