November 14, 2017 will mark the 57th anniversary of New Orleans Public School Desegregation. The Leona Tate Foundation for Change is commemorating this historic event on Saturday, November 18th, 2017 from 1pm to 5:30pm in front of historic McDonogh #19 elementary school. This afternoon will feature two panel discussions with Mrs. Gail Etienne-Stripling-Stripling, Mrs. Tessie Prevost-Williams and Ms. Leona Tate who integrated McDonogh #19 on November 14, 1960, moderated by Mr. Turry Flucker, independent curator and cultural historian. We expect New Orleans Civil Rights Advocate, Rev. Samson “Skip” Alexander to join the panel discussions. We will offer two building tours of the vacant McDonogh #19, and provide food and refreshments. The event will end with a second line procession led by the original Pinstripe Brass Band. The event is free and open to the public.
