A Dark and Stormy Night

Thursday, October 5, 2017 - 6:00pm
On Thursday, October 5th, join Big Class at the Felicity Church for A Dark and Stormy Night. This annual celebration of New Orleans’s young writers, cocktails, and ghost stories will benefit Big Class’s free writing programs for youth ages 6-18. A Dark and Stormy Night is inspired by the New Orleans Haunting Supply Co., the creative storefront of Big Class’s forthcoming Youth Writing Center. The event features a pop-up version of the store, a ghost story-inspired cocktail contest featuring the city’s best mixologists, and a ghost story auction featuring award-winning authors like Walter Isaacson and George Saunders. Music will be provided by DJ RQ Away throughout the evening. A Dark and Stormy Night will be hosted this year by local musical talent and longtime friend of Big Class, DJ Soul Sister. A Dark and Stormy Night centers around a Ghost Story Cocktail Contest, featuring 21st Amendment, the Ace Hotel, Balise, Bar Tonique, French 75, Tiki Tolteca, Treo, and Vessell. Mixologists will be concocting cocktails inspired by a ghost story of their choosing. The competition will be judged by Megan Braden-Perry (journalist and author), Stevona Elem Rogers (writer and activist), Justin Shiels (creative director and founder of This Creative Lab), Marc Pagani (award-winning photographer), Rebecca Snedeker (Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker and writer), and Jillian Tish (creator of Belle of the Bar). Attendees will also have the opportunity to cast votes for the night’s spookiest and tastiest cocktail. Join Big Class for a night sure to be a graveyard smash.
