NEW ORLEANS PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION HOSTS FUNDRAISER TO SUPPORT
MILTON H. LATTER LIBRARY RESTORATION ON JULY 24
Fundraiser to Feature Live Entertainment, Cooking Demonstrations, Wine Tastings, Guest Prizes and More
NEW ORLEANS – (July 21, 2014) – New Orleans Public Library Foundation, in partnership with the New Orleans Public Library and Friends of the New Orleans Public Library, will host a fundraiser to benefit the restoration of the Milton H. Latter Library on Thursday, July 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Latter Library branch in New Orleans (5120 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, La. 70115). Proceeds collected during the event will be used to support the restoration of the ceiling and historic mural of the Latter Library’s Green Room.
Constructed in 1907, the Milton H. Latter Library is one of the most notable mansions on St. Charles Avenue. The ceiling of its Green Room, which features a French fresco mural imported from France, needs restoration after more than a century of deterioration.
“The Latter Library Green Room ceiling, which proudly displays a classic French fresco mural, remains one of St. Charles Avenue’s hidden gems,” commented Milton H. Latter Library Branch Manager Missy Abott. “Yet, the years have taken their toll on the masterpiece, and the New Orleans Public Library Foundation and the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library are seeking community support to ensure the preservation of this treasured piece of art.”
The fundraiser will feature music by the Ashlin Parker Trio, a cooking demonstration and a wine tasting with a local sommelier. Guests will also have the opportunity to win a group dinner for 10 prepared by a personal chef, a professional photography session, a historic bike tour and more. The event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $35 for all New Orleans Library Society members and $50 for the general public.
