Emerging neuroinformatics scientist Lukas (Marius Jampolskis) helps develop a new technology that allows human thoughts to be transferred digitally. In an effort to solidify his commitment to the project, Lukas agrees to become the first human trial in receiving brain transmissions from an anonymous comatose woman. The experiment begins successfully until Lukas meets his anonymous host (Jurga Jutaite) - whom he secretly names Aurora - and she entices Lukas into hiding knowledge of her from the research team. Unable to differentiate between real-life and the trial, Lukas descends into a disorienting spiral that may doom their intense relationship. Favoring permeating long takes prominently inspired by Stanley Kubrick and Andrei Tarkovsky, VANISHING WAVES delivers a visually stunning psychosexual thriller that lingers long after the film ends.
