The City of Mandeville and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Foundation present the History of Jazz in Mandeville. Explore the impact of jazz in Mandeville with a lecture performance by Dr. Michael White. Dr. White has written and published several essays on New Orleans’ musical traditions in scholarly journals, magazines, and books, including the Journal of American History, Cultural Vistas, The Jazz Archivist, Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance, and Triumph of the Soul. He has also presented over one hundred lecture performance programs on the history and meaning of New Orleans Jazz and serves as consultant for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
The lecture performance will include the Jazz connection between New Orleans and Mandeville, the role of Social/Benevolent clubs, as well as sense of community fostered by the genre of music. It is free to the public. Join us on Saturday, April 19, 5:00 p.m at The Dew Drop Jazz & Social Hall.
